Torta Salgada means “Savory Pie” in english.. Found an old recipe book that belonged to my mom, flipped through the pages and found this pie recipe.. It’s easy to make and super delish! Brings back a lot of memories.
This pie recipe has been passed down through generations in Brazil. The pie has many variations, you can make it with ham, turkey, or chicken. Torta Salgada is a very popular holiday dish served on Christmas, New Years and family get togethers in Brazil.
How To Make The Pie Dough
Put all ingredients (See Ingredients Below) for the pie dough in a bowl and blend it with a handheld mixer for about 3 minutes or when you see all lumps are gone. Then set aside to make the filling.
How To Make The Filling
Use another bowl to stir mix all the filling ingredients together.. After mixing taste to make sure you have the right amount of salt.. Some people like it salty some like it less salty.
Instructions For Baking
1. Take the bowl with the beaten pie dough and pour in a greased glass baking pan or regular baking pan and spread it evenly.
2. Then slowly mix the filling in the same pan with the pie dough until you barely see the filling.
3. Place the pan in the oven for about 50 minutes at (350 degrees F), you can check the pie dough with a tooth pick after 40 minutes of baking making sure there is no smear of batter on the toothpick.
4. After the pie is baked.. Let simmer for 30 minutes before serving.. Enjoy!
Note: After you make your first pie I’m sure it will taste great, but the second time you make the pie it will be perfect because you will know what ingredients to add more or less.. Everyone has their secret way of making it, but the base recipe is always the same.

2 Mixing Bowls
Ingredients For The Pie Dough (Batter)
1 1/2 Cup of Milk
2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
1 Cup of Vegetable Oil
1 Cup of Parmesan Grated Cheese
1 Tbsp of Royal Baking Powder (Makes the Pie Dough Rise)
Ingredients For The Pie Filling
3 chopped tomatoes
2 small onions
200 grams of shredded mozzarella
300 grams of chopped ham in small pieces (Can use chicken, turkey or mix them all together)
100 grams of chopped green olives
Palm Full of Chopped Fresh Oregano
4 pinches of Salt (or to your desire)
2 Tbsp of Olive Oil
